Amethyst has been revered historically as it is today. It was known as the stone of royalty from its purple color. It was also used by the masses to avoid overindulgence and drunkenness! That is where the name “Amethyst” came from, translated from Greek meaning “not intoxicated.” 
 
The color of Amethyst connects the observer to their crown chakra. The crown chakra is located at the crown of the head and it connects you to the universe, comic wisdom and universal energy. 
 
Personally, I love Amethyst for its ability to silence “addictive cravings”  - it simply shuts out internal thoughts and noise that is not of your highest good and for the highest good of the universal flow of energy. 
 
Amethyst is not a “loud” crystal. Meaning, it won’t force its way into your thoughts or energy field unwelcome. Instead, it waits for you to approach it and work with it. Although I had Amethyst for many years, it wasn’t until I approached it and asked it to, “Show me what you can do,” that I saw the true power at work.  
 
Amethyst showed me that when you are ready and willing to let its energy in, it has the power to transform and uplift your thinking to higher perspective, free from the lower distractions. 
 
Amethyst is the birthstone for February.
